A chart indicating lands required for canal purposes is shown on the coloured manuscript, giving owners' names, lot numbers and descriptions, and acreage. A supplementary chart supplies additional information such as area required for the canal. Lands required for canal purposes are coloured in green and various buildings are shown. The map bears a stamp from the Thorold Office and is signed by Thomas Monro, Thorold, July, 1873. The National Map Collection holds three other coloured transcript maps, all four maps varying slightly in size and colour. One map does not show the charts supplied on the manuscript copy, but does show the new position for the Welland Railway, not shown on the manuscript map. This map is not signed by Thomas Monro. Another transcript does not show the supplementary chart. The final transcript is additionally signed by John Page. Differing notations have been added to each map.
