"This marine chart with sailing directions of the Halifax harbour area was prepared by Charles Morris in 1759. What has been identified as the first state of the map appeared in 1768 in: A general topography of North America published by Robert Sayer and Thomas Jefferys. It was subsequently issued again, with minor changes in content and with the 1775 imprint as plate IX in: The North American Pilot (1777) published by Robert Sayer and John Bennet. One of the minor changes mentioned was in the date, 1759, which had appeared in the 1768 issue after Morris' title of Chief Surveyor. In the 1775 issue the date had been removed probably to create the impression that the information was as current as possible. The LAC holds two copies of the Jefferys map. One is the coloured single sheet copy described above, another is an uncoloured copy appearing as plate IX in: The North American Pilot 1777. The map was copied and translated by Le Rouge in 1778. The LAC also holds a copy of this version."
