"The map is an accurate depiction of Eastern Canada and New England in 1775. Rivers, lakes, mountain chains, town and other features are well delineated. A hand-coloured boundary between Canada and parts of New England is also shown. This border is one of the more significant aspects of the map for almost everry earlier and later edition of the map shows a slightly different border. Because of these border changes, the map became important in numerous boundary disputes. Thomas Jefferys first published the map in 1755. After his death in 1771 most of his plates passed into the hands of Robert Sayer and John Bennett, publishers. The two men published Jeffery's map in atlases dated 1775, 1777, and 1779. With The Collection holds eleven other copies of this 1775 edition. The only difference in the copies appears to be in the placement of the border between New Brunswick and New England. In all, the twelve maps indicate seven different borders. All the maps are, however, from the same plate."
