Date information from J. Winearls: [1828] because it shows the route through natural gulley but still shows the mound in Dow's Swamp.
A.H.D. Ross in: Ottawa Past and Present, p. 59, quotes from the notes of his grandfather, Thomas Burrowes. "During the winter of 1827-8 and in March 1829, I was employed to make a survey of the whole canal route from the Ottawa River to Black Rapids and scaled the Canal Route and Rideau River carefully, a distance of about nine miles, also the Ottawa River from Lots 39 to 40 downwards for about 9 miles to Green's (island) and of the lower part of the River Gatineau to the first rapids, about 3 1/2 miles; and of Ordnance Lands." This map was in Ross' possession in 1927 when the book was published
