This work is a colour offset lithograph from a set entitled, "Gallery of Canadian History," Portfolio # 2, produced by the Confederation Life Association. John David (J.D.) Kelly was one of several painters commissioned by Confederation Life to produce works documenting pivotal moments in the development of Canada. A number of these paintings appeared on calendars issued by Confederation Life, as well as being reproduced as offset lithographs for a Centennial project entitled, "Canadian Historical Prints from the Confederation Life Collection."
This image was used to illustrate Confederation Life's 1952 annual calendar.
