This sub-sub-series consists of original correspondence written by Inuit patients undergoing tuberculosis treatment outside of their home communities. Files also contain letters written by family members to the patients., Hospitals and sanatoriums at which the patients resided while the correspondence was written include: St. Luke's Hospital, Pangnirtung, N.W.T.; Kateri Memorial, Caughnawaga, Quebec; St. Michael Hospital, Roberval, Quebec; Montreal General Hospital; Moose Factory Indian Hospital, Ontario; Mountain Sanatorium, Hamilton, Ontario; Clearwater Lake Sanatorium, Manitoba; Assiniboine Hospital, Brandon, Manitoba; and Ninette Sanatorium, Manitoba.

These records were discovered in a storage area and transferred directly from the Indian and Northern Affairs Records office.

There are six photographs that accompanied the letters sent.

Note sur le classement :

Most of the files are arranged in alphabetical order by name of correspondent, from letters A to J. Some files are arranged by Eskimo disc number prefixes, such as E3, which were assigned by the federal government as individual identification numbers based on geographic location of residence.

Note sur la langue :

All of these letters were translated from Inuktitut to English through the Welfare Division (later Northern Welfare Services) of the Northern Administration Branch. Files include departmental translators' work sheets, copies of their translations and the original incoming letters, written in Inuktitut syllabics.
