A marine / genre scene depicting a view of square-rigged sailing ships, one with gunports, moored alongside two timber docks extending from [the north shore of the St. Lawrence River]. In the left foreground a figure wearing a broad-brimmed hat and holding a pole with both hands while balancing on floating timbers, is log driving. Among the timbers lying in the water is an upright pole. Facing the log driver is a small unmasted boat with one seated and one standing figure. Sailing further from the shore, at the right of the work, is a fore and aft rigged sailing vessel with two masts. In the distance, several masted ships are moored alongside the shore of Cap Daimant. The artist has roughly sketched the curtain walls of the battlements.
