New ways in farming in the United States. The first sequences deal with the forces that brought change to American agriculture, with the work load of the American farmer, with the images of rural farming life known to all. This is followed by references to the work of the U.S. federal department of Agriculture, by farming activity during World War I, by views of flooding, drought and post-war depression. Finally, there are sequences on new approaches to farming, i.e. varied crop farming, the breeding of animals, etc. in the southern United States. There's a look at farm mechanization, industrialization, truck gardening and personnel management. Cooperatives and farm electrification is also examined. Noteworthy pictorials: a farmer abandons his land, leaving on his wagon loaded down with family and possessions, itinerent jobless farmers are shown during the Depression camping on a road; impoverished southern sharecroppers are shown at home and in the fields; Georgian textile tycoon, Casey Calloway is shown; Black farm hands work southern farms; the Seabrook farm is shown as an example of an industrialized farm in action; the official opening of an electric line is celebrated by a speech and the presence of the Rural Electrification Administration.
