Recherche dans la collection - [Architectural drawings pertaining to the Toronto City Hall Competition] [multiple media]

This body of records was the first major acquisition of the newly established National Architectural Archives. A presentation ceremony and press releases marked this event. The following lines are an excerpt from the 11 December 1970 press release marking the event.

"On Friday, December 11th, Dr. W.I. Smith, Acting Dominion Archivist will accept the first installment of the National Architectural Archives which will become part of the holdings of the Public Archives of Canada. [...]

The presentation to be made on Friday by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada consists of 513 submissions made by architects from 42 counbtries for the design of the Toronto City Hall. Eighty-one of these entries were Canadian. These submissions were the result of an international competition won eventually by Finnish architect, Viljo Rewell. [...]

The donation was formally accepted by Dr. W.I. Smith, Acting Dominion Archivist on December 11, 1970 from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.
