This series consists of 155 projects undertaken by J. Morris Woolfson primarily in Ottawa. Projects include new construction or alterations to existing buildings. They include residences, apartment buildings. industrial plants, cemetery chapels, hospitals, warehouses, stores, office buildings and shopping centres. Project numbers were assigned by LAC staff and reflect the chronological order, the first pair of numbers designating the year of the project.

Examples of plans of buildings outside the city of Ottawa are:

Saint Joseph's Academy; Renfrew Mills Renfrew, Ont.
Sacred Heart School Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.
St. Jean de Brebeuf Hospital Sturgeon Falls. Ont.
Legion Hall Mattawa. Ont.
Queen Victoria Hospital North Bay. Ont.
Rideau View Golf and Country Club Manotick. Ont.
St. Frances Memorial Hospital Barry's Bay. Ont.
I.K.O. Industries Hawkesbury. Ont.

In addition there are some textual files, some of which may be related to the projects material available, some of which may be related to projects listed in the series, others to unlisted projects.

Also included is a series of architectural drawings published in 12 separate volumes by New York Architect Frank M. Snyder between 1906 and 1914.

Note générale :

J. Morris Woolfson was born in Toronto in 1906 and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1929. He began his professional career as an architect with the firm of J. Francis Brown & son of Toronto. In 1932 he joined the firm of Herbert Horner, but lack of work forced his resignation shortly afterwards. In 1934 he moved to Kirkland Lake where he joined the firm of H.B. Long and in 1937 entered private practice.

He came to Ottawa in 1940 and worked for the Works Buildings Branch of National Defence until after W.W. II when he set up his own practice in Ottawa. As the work increased, he ended his association with Mr. O'Gorman of Sudbury that had begun prior to his move to Ottawa. The practice continues today.
