The artist made the assumption that this was the first abstract design to appear on a Canadian stamp; this design is the first of three designs submitted by the artist and is known as "A" (based on information found in the Post Office Department fonds).

Note sur la description matérielle :

According to the artist, the design incorporates the colour of Manitoba's Centennial activities of 1970: gold, royal blue with Canada's symbolic colours: red and white; it represents the 'link' of Manitoba as a Province of Canada as well as it central position in the country (based on information found in the Post Office Department fonds) ; Typography layout : 6 cents.
