FLAT! is a television series for children based on a visual style created by Anne-Caroline Pandolfo and Isabelle Simler. It features a live-action teenager, Vincent, who gets sucked down by a magical magazine named Flatmania. Vincent is transported through a vortex into a whimsically metamorphic world of flatness where he himself turns into a two-dimensional paper-thin animated character. With the help of Kyu, a paper-flat teen wishing to discover the human third dimension, Vincent goes through many exciting adventures as he struggles to return to the real world. During each episode, Vincent and Kyu reach new magazines and must find a rift that will transfer them to the next magazine. In the first story of this episode, Vincent and Kyu find themselves in a sports magazine dedicated to basketball. They meet Vincent's hero, a basketball star whose lucky sneakers contain the access to the rift. A dog grabs the sneakers and runs away with them. The sneakers are, then, found by a group of kids who all happen to be big basketball fans. The kids have no intention to give up the "treasure" they just found. Vincent and Kyu propose a shooting contest between the kids and the basketball star with the sneakers as the final prize. The only problem is the fact that the basketball star's talent and courage are gone without his lucky sneakers. In the second story, Vincent and Kyu arrive in a television magazine, landing directly on the wig of a singer at a musical performance show. Since their program tastes are hardly the same, Kyu and Vincent separate and, in a channel-switching frenzy, stumble upon different worlds populated by characters living in programs defined by conventions of recognizable television and movie genres: a science-fiction series, sitcom, a western film, a quiz show, and a film noir hard-boiled detective movie. When Vincent and Kyu reunite again, they conclude that their friendship is far more important than some petty entertainment taste differences. <24mn 15s>
