DAB IYIYUU, Season Two, also known as ABSOLUTELY ABORIGINAL, is a documentary series, which builds upon Rezolution Pictures' acclaimed series ABSOLUTELY CREE (a.k.a. DAB IYIYUU, Season One). "Dab Iyiyuu" is a Cree term that means the "real/authentic ones," referring to the generation of Cree elders who grew up in the bush and lived the traditional lifestyle unmarred by residential schools, town life and other non-Native impositions. As the title suggests, the series honours the men and women who were born, raised, survived and thrived on the land. Elders have a special place in indigenous cultures. They are spiritual guides, disseminators of knowledge and memory, and living links to the world's remaining hunter-gatherer cultures. In societies based on oral tradition, the elders are natural narrators that tell and retell the history of their people and, in that way, tend to the flame of tradition. The elders featured in this series teach us various ancient skills and, as inheritors of rich oral tradition, share with us stories of the past, facts and legends from a different world and a different reality. Each episode of the second season of DAB IYIYUU features an elder, or a couple, who teach us particular traditional skills, providing insight into a related ceremony, and an account of an indigenous legend. A re-enacted account of the legend they recount, featuring Indigenous performers, rounds out each episode. In this episode, we meet Johnny and Clymie Weistche. On the shores of the mighty Rupert River, in a camp called Smokey Hill, they show us how to catch and prepare Cisco for the long winter ahead. <24mn>
