Item consists of a watercolour of Sir George Pownall (1755-1834), who served the administration of the province of Québec for 28 years from 1775 to 1803. Pownall was Provincial Secretary to four Governors-General: Guy Carleton, Frederick Haldimand, Robert Prescott and Robert Shore Milnes. The watercolour portrait shows Pownall holding a document with a seal indicating his appointment by Lord Dorchester to the Legislative Council committee in 1786.

Note générale :

Three auxiliary documents: a newspaper clip, an inscription on paper and a manufacturer's label were attached to the frame. These have been housed with the item.

Conservation :

Conservation treatment was requested on 20 January 2009. See Condition and Recommended Treatment Report dated 27 October 2008.
