THE RED GREEN SHOW is set in the north woods in the fictional Possum Lodge, somewhere in Northern Ontario. The series features Red Green, a self-proclaimed handyman, who hosts a television show catering to men who enjoy fishing, fixing things, and receiving advice. Red generally tries to find shortcuts to many of his projects, trusting the vast majority of his work to duct tape. In that sense, THE RED GREEN SHOW serves as a parody of popular home improvement, do-it-yourself, fishing and similar outdoors programs. The Lodge's best known mottos are "Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati" meaning "When all else fails, play dead" in pseudo-Latin, and "If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy". The series also features Red's geeky nephew, Harold, fictional producer and director of Red's show, and a band of their idiosyncratic pals who meet at the Lodge to plan their escapades and to socialize. With his misfit cronies, Red Green shares his unique philosophy and witty, often dry and sarcastic, insights into men, their foibles and fascinations. In this episode, Red and Harold try to work through the problems that arise from giving someone an inappropriate Christmas gift. Red demonstrates elaborate gift detecting techniques in order to show how one can find out what he is getting for Christmas without unwrapping the present. The men build a lawn display of Santa's sleigh and reindeer using a wringer washer and some garden gnomes. Red uses a ceiling fan to trim his tree, and a shop vac to clean up the wrapping paper. This episode also features special Christmas messages from the Lodge members. <22mn 19s>
