This series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Office of the Deputy Minister(s) of the Department of Supply and Services. Records document participation in and oversight over inter-departmental policy and planning related to procurement, compensation, comptrollership, information management and the delivery of administrative services across Canada's government service.

The majority of the files in this series are from the 1000 block of the DSS file classification plan and are comprised of Executive Committee files related to various sectors overseen by DSS, including but not limited to compensation and comptrollership; procurement; and information management.

The Department of Supply and Services performed the majority of its functions through the supervision and management of committees, sub-committees, and boards, many of which are documented in this series. Committees include but are not limited to: the Infrastructure Steering Committee; the Operations Review Committee; the Deputy Ministers Departmental Joint Committee; the Contracts Settlements Board, the Contracts Approval Board, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts; the Supply Council Committee; and several committees related to the privatization of Canada Communications Group.

Additionally, this series contains executive level operational files created and maintained by the Deputy Minister's Office. Operational files include but are not limited to: briefing binders, aide memoires, feasibility studies, research and development files, and files documenting DSS procurement and the delivery of administrative services across the government service.

Canada. Department of Supply and Services. Office of the Deputy Minister : When the Department of Supply and Services was created in 1969 it was headed by two Deputy Ministers - the Deputy Minister of Supply and the Deputy Minister of Services. In 1985, these offices merged under a single Office of the Deputy Minister of Supply and Services and remained as such until 1993 when the department was folded into the newly created Department of Public Works and Government Services Canada.
