Instructional film about the properties of air after it has been chilled to a temperature of 200 degrees below zero Fahrenheit and becomes a liquid. The film shows extreme close-ups of demonstrations of solidifying the liquid metal mercury, liquifying other gases and making gun cotton: a man pouring liquid air from one container into another; man making a "mercury hammer" by pouring liquid mercury into a hammer mould, then pouring on liquid air, which causes the mercury to become hard as steel, removing the mould and the man hammering a nail into a piece of wood to demonstrate the strength of the hammer; the intense cold produced by the liquid air is used to liquify gas but allowing hydrogen to escape; a coiled gas pipe with flame at the top, being inserted into a container of liquid air and the flame changing colour as the gas loses the hydrogen; continuation of the last experiment, showing scientist placing liquid soap in place of the flame and bubbles bursting when heated; bottle covered with frost, as the liquid air evaporates, leaving hydrogen at the bottom of the bottle; scientist carrying out experiment with a balloon; scientist tipping liquid into the balloon, which slowly commences to inflate; putting the balloon in contact with a coiled pipe and dipped in liquid air; the balloon deflates and the air that it contains is transferred into a spoonful of liquid air; scientist producing "gun cotton" by dipping cotton wool into liquid oxygen and stuffing the cotton into a piece of pipe, lighting a match to it, causing it to catch fire and produce minor explosions; and an iron bar being heated by an ordinary blow pipe.
