Sub-series includes correspondence, memoranda, and grey literature relating to O'Brien's involvement with the Liberal Party's Alberta Federal Campaign Committee, which was responsible for the management of federal campaign activities in Alberta. Initially recruited as a member by Jim Coutts, O'Brien chaired the committee following Coutts' departure for Ottawa in 1963. The records are arranged in two main blocks: Alberta Appointments and Correspondence and Memoranda. There is also a file on Nova Scotia electoral results and a file on the Prairie Conference on National Problems held at the University of Saskatchewan in 1964. The Appointments files pertain to the management of patronage appointments in Alberta and include both original incoming correspondence and copies of letters sent out by O'Brien. Among the correspondents found in the Correspondence and Memoranda files (in which documents are arranged in reverse chronological order) are Keith Davey, Jim Coutts, Senator John J. Connolly, Donald Macdonald, John Munro, various ministerial assistants, and other prominent Liberals. The correspondence touches on issues such as the Liberal Party's fortunes in Alberta, federal campaign activities and planning, and party policy and strategy issues. Files are arranged in alphabetical order.
