INDIAN TIME 3 : 500 HUNDRED YEARS OF FEELING is the third installment in the variety television series that features a number of popular North American Native artists. Through comedy, music, and drama, top Indian entertainers such as Buffy Sainte-Marie, Shingoose, and Charlie Hill, among others, narrate the story of 500 years of difficult history between Aboriginal people and the Europeans who came to the Americas. In a manner that combines unique insight, oral narrativity, humour, spirituality, and traditional dance, the performers reflect on the injustices and struggles from the not-so-distant past. Issues reflected on include the role of the Presbyterian Church in the Eurocentric discrimination against the Natives, sexual abuse in Residential schools, and the Oka crisis. The show contains moments of parallel editing in a segment that intercuts archival news voices that tell a biased version of the past and the Aboriginal voices that challenge the Eurocentric version of history. Performance numbers often cross-cut to stock footage of American-Indian conflicts, the Oka crisis, and different war images of sorrow and displacement. <49 mn>
