34 watercolours done in the Canadian Rockies, in Montana, and in Washington state, including hunting scenes and Indian encampments. The works are by Frederick Goddard Gale, who may have accompanied the Hon. Frederic Whitworth Aylmer, 3rd son of the seventh Baron Aylmer on his trip to the Canadian West, during which Aylmer was part of Major A.B. Rogers' expedition in 1881-1882 to discover a route for the Canadian Pacific Railway.

The expedition left Kamloops, B.C. on April 29, 1881, and travelled on the Columbia, Bow, and Illecillewaet rivers, entering Montana and Washington states during the trip. Rogers Pass was found on July 24, 1881, and the party also explored the Kicking Horse river and Pass.

Views include Citadel Rock on the Missouri River; views in the Columbia River; views in Montana; a camp of Shuwap indians; views in the Selkirk Range; views in the Bow River, Vermilion River, and Bow and Vermilion Passes; views along the Kicking Horse River and Pass; and views of Pilot and Castle Mountains.

The latest dated watercolour in this fonds is 1885.
