The photographs of this sub-series relate to the public life and public persona of Ed Broadbent as leader of the New Democratic Party and as Member of Parliament, from his first election in 1968 to his first retirement in 1989, and from his successful return in 2004. There are also a small, but significant number of photographs relating to Mr. Broadbent's personal and family life.

It contains photographs of Ed Broadbent as leader of the New Democratic Party with prominent national and international politicians in key moments of their political career : with Olaf Palme, Prime Minister of Sweden in 1974 ; in 1976 with British Prime Minister Jim Callaghan ; in 1975 with the Secretary of State of the United States Henry Kissinger, with the Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney and the Leader of the Opposition John Turner after the 1984 election and after the 1988 election ; in 1989 with the President of the Philippines, Corozon Aquino, and with Aquino and the Governor General of Canada, Jeanne Sauvé ; in 1987 with the President of France François Mitterand ; in 1989 with the Prime Minister of Canada Brian Mulroney and the 1983 Nobel Peace Prize recipient Lech Walesa, who would be elected President of Poland in 1990. There are also photographs of Ed Broadbent with former NDP leaders Tommy Douglas and Davis Lewis.

The sub-series includes a snapshot of Ed Broadbent at his bedroom door wearing a high hat on "Constitution morning", April 17, 1982. It also contains a photograph from Ed Broadbent's comeback period (2004-2006) signed by NDP leader Jack Layton that shows members of the party celebrating their "historic Budget Victory" in the House of Commons on June 23, 2005.
