Schwartz, Eddie, 1949- : Eddie Schwartz graduated from York University in 1977 with a combined major in Music and English. As a student, the Toronto native played in a number of bands, afterwards becoming a guitarist in Charity Brown's touring back-up band.

Subsequently, Schwartz pursued a career as a solo artist, while working as a staff songwriter with ATV Music. Despite releasing three of his own albums and several singles, his solo career never gained momentum, and after 1984 he devoted his energies to producing and songwriting. His material for others had already gained him an international reputation as a songwriter - "Hit Me with Your Best Shot" became one of U.S. singer Pat Benetar's biggest singles, selling over 2 million copies. The list of artists who have employed Schwartz's talents includes Donna Summer, Long John Baldry, Rita Coolidge, Joe Cocker, The Doobie Brothers, Paul Carrack among others.

Eddie Schwartz's songs have sold over 20 million copies worldwide and have been recorded by a vast array of artists. He has won multiple BMI, Juno and SOCAN awards, and received PROCAN's William Harold Moon Award in recognition of his international achievement. Schwartz is a long-time director on the board of the Songwriters Association of Canada.
