A young man starts off a beautiful day in the wilderness paddling and portaging along a river. His competance and comfort with the outdoors is demonstrated through a variety of different activities: observing a moose through his binoculars; quietly approaching a pair of crying loons on the water; photographing extreme close-ups of a frog; successfully fishing for trout; and feeding peanuts to a hungry chipmunk. When a storm breaks, a quick make-shift shelter is made with his canoe and while the young man waits out the storm, he keeps himself warm by drinking a bottle of whiskey. When the storm subsides, the man tries to prepare a fire and to fillet the trout though not without great trouble as the effects of the alcohol impair his once competent abilities. The young man passes out again and awakens to a completely burnt pair of fillets and an empty bottle. His enjoyment of the outdoors has been spoiled by his over-indulgence in alcohol, punctuated by a pounding hangover that is amplified by nature's soundtrack. <11mn 40s>
