Along the hike, Hopkins observes several beavers at work and dicusses their importance to the ecology of the environment. Porcupines and white-tailed deer also cross paths with Hopkins, allowing him to elaborate on their characteristics and habits. Hopkins also carries with him a tape recorder with specific sounds of wildlife which he plays to 'speak' with particular birds. Responding to his recorded sounds are the Screech Owl, the White Breasted Nuthatch, the Cardinal, and the Black Capped Chickadee.
