A look at the east coast fishery after the Supreme Court of Canada's Marshall Decision which allows First Nations to make a modest living by hunting and fishing. The program looks at the issues of Burnt Church and Indian Brook First Nations and the conflicts between fisherman and native fisherman. Denny Morrow, Atlantic Fishing Industry Alliance and Wayne Spinney, West Nova Fishermen's Coalition discuss the issues and how their must be an understanding by both parties to protect the fishery and that they can benefit from a mutual respect for each others right to earn a livelihood. Also interviewed are Chief Reg Maloney, Indian Brook First Nation; who are challenging the Marshall Decision and arguing that they have a treaty right to fish the lobster fishery whenever and where ever they like. David Bevan, Department of Fisheries and Oceans is interviewed and emphasizes the need for a local solution to the problem in order to prevent further conflicts in the future. <59mn 15s>
