Proceedings from a one day conference on mandatory minimum sentencing for criminal offences. Speakers at the conference discuss topics as the history of sentencing in Canada and how it is established in the Criminal Code, what are the goals of minimum sentencing, comparisons to the United States where mandatory minimum sentencing is in effect in many states, and racial problems in the judicial system, among other concerns such as the perceived effectiveness of minimum sentencing. Speakers include: Nicole Crotcher, Correctional Service of Canada; Dianne Martin, Jamie Cameron, Fiona Sampson, Elizabeth Sheehy and Janine Benedict of Osgoode Hall Law School.
