Centred round the dramatization of a young bride returning to her father's home for the Festival of Durga, the film depicts the age-old pattern of community life. Villagers are seen at work on rice fields and farms, and engaged in a variety of artisan crafts like silk-weaving, potting, hand-painting scrolls, bamboo weaving, and brass, gold and copper work. The focal point of the Festival is the image of the goddess Durga, made by the villagers from clay and richly decorated. Noteworthy footage includes: procession of drummers winding through the village; market scenes, with snake-charmer and puppet show; worship of the goddess and presentation of artisan's gifts; and final procession carrying the image of Durga to the river for immersion. Also of special interest are the river boats and ox-drawn wagons; the ritualistic adornment of the young women for the Festival; and sequences on traditional dance and music. <30mn>Langue :EnglishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
