Interview with Mr. Brian Schroeder, a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church Sponsor Group in Pembroke, Ontario. He shares his experience of sponsoring and helping a Southeast Asian family. The interviewee is asked a set list of questions which focus on the following issues: reasons for becoming a sponsor; the formation and responsibilities of the sponsor group; advice and support from other organisations; pledging of the funds required for the sponsorship year; Department of Immigration bureaucracy; background of the refugees and the adjustment and adaptation period (e.g., language training and job hunting); social contact and financial arrangements between the sponsors and the refugees; and reflections on the positive aspects and drawbacks of private sponsorship. <2h>
