This film explains what to do and what not to do in the way of on-the-spot first aid when industrial back injuries occur in order to avoid further injury. The film opens with a man in a wheelchair giving a direct address that deals with spinal injuries due to on-the-job accidents. This leads to his voice-over detailing two work-related accidents that are dramatized. In the first, a man falls while working in a factory. An animation sequence of spine x-ray photographs is used to show the structure of the spine and to demonstrate the dangers of improper movement to a person with spinal cord injuries. Special techniques are demonstrated that keep the spine stable while the patient is moved, if help is unavailable. The second accident shows a tree falling on a logger. The same technique is shown, four men moving the patient on a board, with the spine kept stable. A sequence of other possible accidents are shown before returning to the host who advises the audience to take a first aid course. <17mn 13s>
