Two young lovers, Julie and Ives, living in a small town in Vermont, decide to postpone their marriage until Ives has finished his education and established himself as a scientist. Caught in a blizzard, Julie accidentally meets a writer and elopes with him. They go to New York, then to Paris, where he is shot by accident at a bohemian party. Julie and her daughter remain in Paris, despite the difficulties Julie encounters in securing work. They eventually return to Vermont for a visit to Julie's aunt. By this time Ives is a professor of biology at the local university. He rebuffs Julie's approaches and seems instead attracted to a Héloise-Abélard affair with one of his students. But soon after, he realizes that he is still in love with Julie. And despite a scene with the young girl and the attempts by Ives' mother and sister to prevent his reunion with Julie, they are finally married, to the delight of Julie's aunt. <77mn>
