1. One reel spliced together from four rolls received in two Cine-Kodak 8mm boxes. Mixed colour and black and white film.~2. One of the reels was received in a box labelled From G.W. Rowley, c/o D.D. Jenness, National Museum of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario.~3. It is likely that one of the reels was not in its original box because the box had instructions to develop before 1939 but the edge codes indicate a film stock production date of 1947.~4. Provenance uncertain - catalogue card attributes this to collection and or depositor Dr. Diamond Jenness Collection National Museum, but remarks on card state that depositor of footage is not known.~5. Graham Rowley screened the footage prior to his death in 2003. Contextual information was provided to the National Archives by John Bennett, Canadian Polar Commission.~6. Graham Rowley, archaeologist with the British Canadian Arctic Expedition (1936-39) shot most of the film with the exception of a few scenes shot by Father Étienne Bazin, OMI, Catholic priest at Avvajjar (Avvajja). Graham Rowley gave him his 8mm camera upon leaving the Arctic.~7. Graham Rowley's book "Cold Comfort : My Love Affair with the Arctic" (McGill-Queens, 1996), includes some of the scenes in the home movie as described in the chapter "Excavation at Abverjar".~8. Actuality footage over 50 years - copyright expired.~9. Diana Rowley, wife of Graham Rowley, died on 22 September 2019, at the age of 101.
