These audio cassettes feature proceedings of the Confederation of Canadian Unions at the Wesbury Hotel, Toronto, Ontario. Taped proceedings continue from previous day.~The morning portion of the convention includes: Resolutions Committee Report (continued); and guest speaker Stan Gray, director, Ontario Workers Health Centre.~Stan Gray is introduced to the convention by Cathy walker of the Canadian Association of Industrial, Mechanical and Allied Workers (CAIMAW). Gray speaks about a number of incidents which have occurred at Westinghouse involving: an unsafe bandsaw; a chemical explosion resulting in the blinding of an employee and charges laid against Westinghouse; a similar explosion at National Steel Car; an issue at York University where a woman miscarried as a result of toxic fumes. He went on to emphasize to the convention the fact that companies operate under unsafe conditions because it is too costly to remedy the unsafe conditions.~Following lunch, the convention continues with: the Resolutions Committee report (continued); and guest speaker Menardo Pallarca, Ecumenical Committee for Human rights in the Phillippines.~Pallarca speaks to the convention about: poor labour conditions in the Phillippines; a low minimum wage; laws prohibiting strikes in Economic Processing Zones; harm and death the workers on picket lines; the organization of labour unions including the [Kilusang Mayo Uno] and the severe repression they face. He then asks for the support and recognition of the CCU for the struggle of the [Kilusang Mayo Uno] trade union and economic rights. The Resolution Committee Report then resumes. <2h 25mn>
