Sensitivity note: The term scalping refers to the practise of removing the scalp or portion of the scalp of an individual with hair intact. This term has various negative historical associations for Indigenous peoples. It was both a practise of warfare amongst nations in the pre-contact period as well as a stipulation of genocidal policies aimed at the eradication of Indigenous populations in the later colonial period. The usage of this term for humorous purposes denotes historical attitudes that promote harmful Indigenous stereotypes and/or a lack of consideration for historic traumas endured by Indigenous peoples and does not reflect the attitudes of Library and Archives Canada's current goals towards reconciliation.
The North-West Rebellion (or North-West Resistance) was a five-month insurgency against the Canadian government, fought mainly by the Métis and their First Nations allies.
