Second in a six-part series exploring the work and activities of home economists in developing countries. With Program Two narrator May Maskow looks at projects in Africa and the people who carry them out. These individuals are asked to speak for themselves.~Maskow interviews Dr. Lila Enberg who, in 1981, left for a two year assignment in Malawi. This project, backed by CIDA and connecting Mount St. University and Malawi, helped to establish a University program with recognized international standards at the University of Malawi. Enberg speaks to issues including technology in third world countries, cultural observations with regard to low income households and food preparation, the ability to transfer technology between cultures, feasibility, indigenous knowledge and scientific research, partnerships in development, and the importance of research in developing countries.~Maskow interviews Barbara Baeta, the first Ghanian to have a CIDA scholarship in Canada to learn about food services. She now has her own catering company and training school in Ghana. Baeta speaks to issues including the process of combining modern and traditional methods of cooking and equipment in her catering service.~Maskow interviews Dr. Margaret McCready, former Dean of Economics at the University of Guelph. McCready speaks of and makes cultural observations with regard to her work in developing countries, homemaking in developing countries, and problems with water supply and firewood for cooking.~Maskow interviews Helen Abell concerning complications encountered in Nigeria with regard to imported attitudes resulting from cultural differences.~The program closes with information concerning the program schedule, program synopsis and production information. <28mn>
