PM entitled "An Address to the Public of Philadelphia: Containing a Vindication of the Character and Conduct of the Reverend Mr. Inglesi, from Charges and Strictures Lately Reported and Published against him by the Reverend Mr. Harold. Translated from the French. Philadelphia: Printed for the Author. 1824." The writer quotes at length from a letter written by the [a]bp. of Québec [Plessis, to Conwell, of 15 September 1823; see Varia 166, C 129 346], in which the bp. recalls the European career of the writer (met in Québec in 1814), allegedly born in Rome and ordained a sous-diacre in Perugia, who married a Catholic woman [Morin] before a Protestant minister [Spark], then left her and tried unsuccesfully to marry another woman.

He also quotes from a letter by Dubourg to the writer [dated 1823], citing the bp. of Québec's letter to Dubourg [of 8 October 1822], the Duke of Richmond [Lennox] and the writer's career as an actor. The writer shows the contradictions that are in the two letters by the bp. of Québec (Catholics would not marry before a Protestant minister, and bigamy is punished by hanging), and maintains that he is not the same Inglesi described by the bp. of Québec. [The balance of this letter deals with the United States, Inglesi's activities in Europe]. B: folio 181v.
