PM. The writer acknowleges the addressee's letter of 13 [September 1823]. He rejoices at Hogan's resignation [as pastor of St. Mary's, Philadelphia], but is worried about his being replaced by [A.] Inglesi. The European career of Inglesi (allegedly born in Rome [recte in Perugia, c.1795]) is described in detail, as told to the writer when they met [in Québec] in 1814. As for Inglesi's presence in Canada, he organized a theatre, became a wine trader, married a Catholic woman [Morin] before a Presbyterian minister [Spark], left her, tried unsuccesfully to marry another woman, and eventually left without paying his rent [to A. Amiot]. While in Rome [in 1819/20], the writer tried to verify whether Inglesi had been ordained a sous-diacre in Perugia, but could find no evidence thereof.

According to the writer, this Inglesi cannot be the same person whom the bp. of New Orleans, Dubourg, sent to Europe to advertise the state of his mission and to find assistance. Napoleon [I], Muller, Graham, Harold are also mentioned.
