ALS. The writer informs the addressee of the death (6 February [1825]) of Connolly, [bp. of New York], who had deprived the writer of his spiritual powers on 2 November 1821. Accusations against [C.] Ffrench are repeated. PF had asked the [a]bp. of Québec [Plessis] to visit [New York] during his return journey [to Canada], in order to gather information on the dispute between Ffrench and the writer. The [a]bp. arrived [in New York in July 1820], remained 24 hours, and then proceeded to Québec. [In New York], the [a]bp. met with Count d'Espinville, French consul, and [T.] Stoughton, Spanish consul, both of whom are in favour of the writer. In order to avoid the matter being brought before a civil court, he decided to censure both Ffrench and the writer. [The balance of this item deals with the United States]. MN (first copy, sent via Le Havre, 15 February [1825]).
