Documentary film on the repatriation of the "potlach" and its ceremonial artifacts to the Kwakwaka'wakw of the Northwest Coast of Alert Bay.~The film outlines a brief history of these people and the significance of the "potlach", a ceremony of dance and gift-giving which was opposed by early white settlers and later prohibited by the Canadian government. The ceremonial gear of the Potlach collection, which had been confiscated by the government, has been returned to these people who now rejoice over their lost treasures.~The film includes sequences on Village Island, where a mass arrest had occured in 1921; native artists re-creating potlach objects out of wooden carvings; opening day of the Potlach exhibition at U'Mista Cultural Centre in Alert Bay; local people teaching the Kwak'wala language to the children of Alert Bay; and comments delivered by Gloria Cranmer Webster, Curator of the museum, and senior members of the Namgis band. <28mn>
