Ross Eaman interviews Michael Harrison, Head of the President's Study of CBC Management after the Glassco Report. Harrison discusses: his early work with the CBC in the early 1950s; his work as a technician; technical people of the time; beginnings of the union; how he came to join NABET; grievances, working conditions; his objections to first contract; joining grievance committee; setting up Industrial Relations Office in Toronto in 1954; Tim O'Sullivan, organizer of NABET; process of negotiations; jurisdictional grievances among unions; 1955, becoming administrative assistant of Ira Dillworth; Alphonse Ouimet's "rubber band lecture"; resigning from CBC to accept business administration fellowship; his time at London School of Economics; his return to CBC in 1958 as Assistant Manager of Industrial Relations; producers' strike; split of English and French networks; Industrial Relations staff in the early 1960s; IATSE negotiations; his work on Glassco Commission; becoming Alphonse Ouimet's executive assistant; relationship with Ouimet; discussion of Glassco Report; accepting position as Head of President's Study Group into the Glassco findings; mandate; findings and recommendatiosn of study group; Ouimet's reactions; SEVEN DAYS crisis; CBC Board's reaction to Glassco and internal study committee reports; leaving CBC for Treasury Board in 1964; general level of enthusiasm in civil service; English-French relations; and setting objectives for CBC. <1h 48mn>
