Description :

Film about the Irish Guards. Intertitles explain that the Irish Guards were formed in 1901 by Queen Victoria to commemorate the bravery of the Irish Regiments during the South African war. Since that time, the Irish Guards have upheld the great traditions of the Brigade of Guards, both in peace and in war. The film is divided into the following sections: Lieutenant General's Inspection (with shot of Lieutenant Colonel Robert Bruce Reford); St. Patrick's Day; Dinners; Athletics (with shot of trainer); King Edward VIII's Inspection; Presentation of Colours at Hyde Park in June; Weapon Training; and Trooping. Follows "Gaumont British News" footage of the Irish Guards leaving for Egypt in 1936 which includes: the First Batallion saying goodbye to loved ones as they board the train; guards boarding the Troop Ship "Neuralia"; J.S.N. Fitzgerald, the Regimental Lieutenant Colonel, getting off the ship before its departure. <12mn 36s>
