Television documentary introduced by Arnold Edinborough. It focusses on French Canadians, from their contributions to Canadian history and culture to their continuing struggle to preserve ethnic integrity and a sense of historical identity. The hour surveys the role of the French in exploring and developing Canada and travels to Normandy and Brittany, the regions to which many French Canadians trace their origins. Newsreel footage recalls the Dieppe landing in 1942 and the Montreal hockey riot of 1955. Also, cameras visit francophone communities in the west. Among the interviewees are entertainer Yvon Deschamps, clothing designer Marielle Fleury and Father Pierre Caron of St. Boniface. <60mn>
