This CBC television public affairs program features a documentary film by Allan King portraying the life of World War II refugees in Kapfenberg, Austria, one of Europe's numerous refugee camps. CLOSE-UP host J. Frank Willis introduces the documentary, pointing out that this is World Refugee Year. The refugees at Kapfenberg have for fourteen years lived in wooden barracks surrounded by barbed wire, having no place to go. The narrator points out their frustrations and hopelessness of living under these conditions, and tells the case history of three families. Includes sequences various refugee families including a young woman and an older couple; children playing at a pig-killing; camp women working at daily chores; and children singing at a birthday celebration in kindergarten. <30mn>
