The image takes up on the u.l. corner of the drawing board, the rest bear the text of a letter. The drawing depicts a view of Otanabee River near Peterboro, Ontario. There is a tree in the foreground, a canoe on the river in the middleground and hills in the background., April 1975 - when accessioned the item was discoloured and slightly soiled.

Dated., Inscription: Inscribed recto: l.c. of the image "Ottonobee [sic] help - God bless you //ic]" in pencil; l.r. on the image "G H / 1919" initialled and dated in pencil by the artist; the following inscription is the text of letter inscribed on the recto and verso of the item in pen and ink [Recto] "1919 / March 18th my dearest Boy / I need not say how / sorry I am you have been / suffering with tonsilitis [sic] help - God bless you //ic]. the / throat too is very trying to bear out / of order - I am in hopes to hear today / you are relieved - Con [?] I would not / have hurried in to the Bk on / your return from camp - you were / rundown then with over work // [Verso] but I was mighty glad / they gave you that bonus, / thanks to you I indulge / in a movie once or twice / a week - last night - a very / pretty piece - scenery etc / - 'The girl of my dreams' / - We have had a wonder / ful - winter of mild, and / bright weather - no snow, ice or / frost in the ground. (that is rare in Toronto) no / travelling on Rice Lake but / enough thin ice to fill / their ice houses - / I am so anxious to get / to Chicago - but my way / seems still to be here! - Don't / hurry back to the Bk - dear - / get in good shape first - / Excuse so short a line - the / sketch is where Harold & I once / camped - we must cheer up all / things come in a life time - we / need courage in every thing [sic] / don't get 'down hearted', Inscription: - I / have still some '[illegible]' left in me / you always will have my dear boy - / with Gods [sic] help - God bless you // [Recto u.r.] My love to Con [?] - / this is another lovely / day - Heaps of love / to your dear mother / & yr. self - also / the girls - a steamer / started running to / Hamilton this week! / a thing unknown before / - the sun is quite / powerful now, / must close!! ever / your fond Dad"
