Television program on the arts. Harry Mannis presents a film profile on the Scottish-born Montreal photographer, William Notman. Photographs recall Canada's pioneer days and Notman's story is vividly recounted through readings of his own recollections and letters by his wife. A number of his more famous and representative works are shown, including a composite photograph of the Montreal Curling Club. Noteworthy are his portraits of many North American personalities including: Sir John A. Macdonald; Chief Sitting Bull; Jefferson Davis; D'Arcy McGee; Harriet Beecher Stowe; and Buffalo Bill Cody. Program concludes with a short film, THE RING OF TIME, in which photographs and recordings by photographer Lutz Dille depict the sights and sounds around a cathedral in Mexico. <30mn>
