The painting was engraved by James McArdell (1710-1765). Robert Dunkarton (1744-1811?) engraved the Duke alone. This portrait of George Villiers was well known, it was the source for Thomas Gainsborough's portrait of Jonathan Buttall (The Blue Boy, c.1770)., This copy is attributed to Lady Falkland, who signed other copies in the album (1990-207-41X and -55X). It could be from the original, a copy, or an engraving since Falkland, an illegitimate daughter of William IV, might have had access to the Royal Collection after her fathers accession in 1830.
