Inscription: inscribed in the stone, l.l.: Drawn by Wm. H. Wentworth from an Original Sketch taken by Thos. H. Wentworth who was a witness of the scene; l.r.: Lithographed at Thomas Moore's Establishment, Boston Lane, (late Pendleton's); l.c.: FH Lane Del. / VIEW OF THE GREAT / CONFLAGRATION that took place / on the night of Saturday, the 14th day / of January 1837. The FIRE commenced / Peter Wharf about 9 o'clock in / evening, by which at least One / Third of / the commercial part of the / city of SAINT JOHN in the Province / of New Brunswick became a heap of / smouldering ashes (extensive following inscription described the extent of damage, not transcribed). Entered according to Act of Congress in the / year 1838, by Thos. Moore, in the / Clerk office of the District Court of / Massacheusetts.
