Taken from the opposite point form which / sketch no. 2 was afterwards taken. / - on my finger is / perched my constant / companion "Dick" / a Canary Bird whose / song was charming / & whose familiarity / was indeed companionship / - I lost this dear little / friend one bright but / unlucky day [last word crossed out] morning in April. / the deaf and dumb boy / who attended me and who had tamed the bird not heading [sic] / that Dick was at large / opened the Window and / to [letters of last word stroked out] soon to his great dismay discovered the little captive perched on one of the outside Bars. / He drew my attention to the danger. both he & I tried every device to entice him inwards / with our Can dian ?
