Speech by John Fisher on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of McDonald Consolidated School in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. An unnamed speaker provides biographical details of Fisher's life by way of introduction, describing his career at the CBC, his books, his position as president of John Fisher Enterprises Ltd. and other information. Fisher then speaks about: the school; New Brunswick history; the importance of heritage; the Nova Scotia-born inventor of kerosene, Abraham Gesner, who also wrote the first textbook on oil refining and is considered the father of the petroleum industry but is all but forgotten in the Canadian history books; the lack of interest in Canadian history; and the importance of being proud of your heritage. The speeches are preceded by the singing of O Canada and followed by the singing of God Save the Queen.
