Monckton to Major General Abercrombie. Copy. Enclosing two letters from Louisbourg with a journal of the proceedings from the time they left Halifax. He has no doubt Abercrombie will receive fuller news from other sources. There seems the greatest likelihood that Louisbourg will soon fall. The accounts all agree that the enemy position was very strongand well placed, and if the enemy troops had done their duty, it would have been an expensive undertaking to drive them out. Major Scott's enterprise in leading the way to the shore seems to have made the landing so economical an operation. It was reported that a French regiment managed to get in the night before, having landed at St. Ann.

Parties in the woods are coming in to surrender themselves and a party from Fescher's Swiss Regiment who had deserted to the English, stated that the majority of the same regiment will follow their example at the first opportunity. Sir Charles Hardy is occupied in preventing the escape of the ships in the harbour, and Wolfe has begun to erect a battery at Lighthouse Point to play upon them. Everything has been quiet in Nova Scotia since the fleet and army have left there.
