Documentary on how the leaders of Palau, a Micronesian entity, came to reject the Compact of Free Association with the United States, its trustee, and declared itself a nuclear free zone republic. Other topics include: United States liability and deception in Palau within the framework of examining American government and political conditions there; and a brief history of Palau including WW II followed by American use of Micronesia as a nuclear weapons testing ground and the radiation injuries, crippling and birth defects arising from that program. Comments by: Palauan profesionals and high-level government representatives, including Harvo Remeliik, President of the Republic of Palau; Ibedul Yutak Gibbons, the High Chief of Palau; and senior American officials dealing with Palau, including Fred Zeder, American ambassador to Micronesia. Excerpt of speeches by Roger Clark of the Rutgers University Law School at the United Nations Trusteeship Council Meeting, 1982, and American President, Ronald Reagan on a February 9, 1983 television broadcast to the people of Palau. Scenes shown include 1940s newsreel coverage of the removal of Bikini Islanders by American military personnel, and, also, cover the following subject areas: nuclear testing in Micronesia; John. F. Kennedy; and American-Palau politics and relations in the 1980s, including the High Chief of Palau declaring the Compact of Association null and void. <1hr 40mn>
